(Redirected from Rituals)

Beyond their symbolic and social importance, Ceremonies (or Rituals) are known to create magical effects in the Diamond Throne. Besides being a theme in Arcana Evolved, they were described with game mechanics by Mike Mearls in Mystic Secrets.

In terms of mechanics, any of the following Ceremonies are like spells anybody can cast if they know the Ceremony, fullfil the prerequisites and pay the cost (typically something you must do or pay in gold).

Contents

[edit] Personal Rituals

Typically, quick to perform, little cost, and with symbolic activities and adds to the roleplaying experience. A character knows as many of these as his intelligence score. The rituals may be recorded as game progresses, and do not need to be picked before they come up.

[edit] Power Rituals

Power Rituals have greater game impact, and typically cost more (deeds or gold). When starting a character the character knows a number of Power Rituals equal to 1 + Intelligence modifier. More Power Rituals can be learned in three ways:

  1. Gaining a level gives you skill points. If these are spent on the Knowledge (Ceremony) skill, the character will automatically know one new Power Ritual for each rank taken above 4.
  2. Given a week of study with somebody who knows a ritual, the student learns the ritual if he succeeds a Knowledge (Ceremony) skill check DC 20 (or Intelligence check DC 20 if he does not have this skill).
  3. Spend weeks with a teacher, and after half a year the student learns the ritual automatically if his Intelligence score is above 6.

Mystic Secrets details dozens of Power Rituals, including race-specific ones. This web-enhancement presents maledictions

[edit] Bonds

Bonds create connections between individuals, groups or things - like a Warrior to his favourite weapon, or a friend to his friends.

[edit] Ceremonies in the Diamond Throne

Søren Keis Thustrup (Siobharek) came up with the great idea of Ceremoniums, large complexes of buildings, courtyards, and underground chambers with the facilities for every imaginable ceremony (See the full article on the Diamond Throne site), and one such Ceremonium can be seen in the Fiery Dragon adventure Circle of Rites - also by Søren Keis Thustrup.
